The GreenField is one of Woodhouse’s original and most popular home plans. Its claim to fame lies in its usage of a common 40’x28’ footprint that translates into a very efficient layout for a 3-bedroom home. Many of our Woodhouse customers have chosen the GreenField as a starting point for their customized timber frame home.
One of the reasons the GreenField remains popular among Woodhouse homeowners is the familiarity the floorplan exudes with its beautiful and timeless timber frame design features. The horizontal frame that supports the roof, which is referred to as the principle purlin with common rafters, is a well-recognized design standard in many timber frame homes, and the full-length farmhouse-style front porch is a very familiar addition to anyone who embraces outdoor living.
Some homeowners choose to incorporate aging in place-centric modifications to the GreenField, such as lowering the master bedroom down to the main floor, to better accommodate their current and future lifestyles. Other Woodhouse customers customize the GreenField by slightly enlarging the floor plan, designing a walkout basement, or adding a timber frame porch or other outdoor living spaces. For additional customization inspiration, you may want to explore Woodhouse’s Adirondack and Lanier Cottage home plans, which were both designed based on the GreenField layout.
The GreenField is a wonderful starting point for anyone who would prefer to add their personal touches on a preexisting home design, as opposed to starting from scratch with a completely blank canvas. With plenty of room for personal modifications such as aging in place design and additional outdoor living space, the GreenField may just the pre-designed floor plan for your starting point on your own custom timber frame home design.
